Enter the values; results update automatically.

Closed ideal tank with two equal flat, exact 2:1 ellipsoidal (D/4) or hemispherical (D/2) heads. Cone-bottom tanks have a flat top. Excludes torispherical, unequal or tilted tanks, nozzles and internals. Inside area × wall thickness is a thin-wall estimate; forming thinning, welds and tolerances are excluded.

How to use

Choose the shape and enter inside dimensions in mm. L is the straight body only, excluding heads and cone; on vertical tanks L is its straight height. Enter material, uniform wall thickness and extra parts mass.

Example calculation

D = 1000, L = 2000 mm, flat ends, t = 2 mm, ρ = 7900 kg/m³: approximately 124.09 kg plus extras.

Calculation method

m_shell ≈ (A_body + A_ends) × t × ρ m_total ≈ m_shell + m_extra A: m²; t: m; ρ: kg/m³
