Calculation result

Enter the values; results update automatically.

Closed ideal tank with two equal flat, exact 2:1 ellipsoidal (D/4) or hemispherical (D/2) heads. Cone-bottom tanks have a flat top. Excludes torispherical, unequal or tilted tanks, nozzles and internals.

How to use

Choose the shape and enter inside dimensions in mm. L is the straight body only, excluding heads and cone; on vertical tanks L is its straight height.

Example calculation

D = 1000, L = 2000 mm, flat ends: body 6.283 m²; ends 1.571 m²; total 7.854 m².

Calculation method

A_cyl = 2πrL; A_flat,₂ = 2πr² A_cone = πr√(r²+C²); A_hemi,₁ = 2πr² A_ellip,₂ = 2πr²[1 + (1−e²)atanh(e)/e] e = √(1−a²/r²); r, L, C, a: m; A: m²

Calculation limits

Closed ideal tank with two equal flat, exact 2:1 ellipsoidal (D/4) or hemispherical (D/2) heads. Cone-bottom tanks have a flat top. Excludes torispherical, unequal or tilted tanks, nozzles and internals.
