Heat transfer
Process information for a shell-and-tube heat exchanger quotation
Describe your heat exchanger enquiry by gathering the fluids, temperatures, flow rates and operating conditions for both circuits.
Describe the two circuits separately
Shell-and-tube heat exchangers transfer heat between two fluids. Specifying the hot and cold sides separately avoids confusion in a quotation request. Provide the known operating conditions as well as the fluid names.
- The fluid and its composition in each circuit
- Inlet temperatures and required outlet temperatures
- Flow rates and required heat duty, if known
Add operating and layout conditions
Share the pressure and temperature limits stated in the project specification. Connection positions, available space and maintenance access also help assess the equipment requirements.
- Operating/design pressure and temperature, if known
- Connection layout, material requirements and fluid properties
- Installation dimensions and access space for maintenance
Make missing information clear
If values such as flow rate or temperature are unknown, do not proceed on the basis of an assumed performance guarantee. You can begin a technical discussion with the available process description, drawing and specification.
